KELSO LANE TRAGEDY Aged Man's Sudden Death
A thirteen years old school boy, on his way to school, found the body of an aged retired railway employee draped over a fence along the Second Lane, Kelso, yesterday morning. The dead man was Mr. George Burton (70), a widower. His body was found about 500 yards away from his residence. Death was due to a heart seizure, with which he was struck, as he was climbing through the fence. He was last seen alive by his sister, Mrs. Emma Saunders, with whom he had resided for a number of years, at 7.30 p.m. on Monday. At that time, the late Mr. Burton retired to bed. Exact time of his death is not known, but it appeared that he rose early, and, following his usual practice, walked up the lane to see his horse, which was in a paddock a short distance up the road. The body was found by Robert Balilie, who lives at the same address, as he was on his way to school at 8.45 a.m. The boy recognised Mr. Burton, and immediately rushed back to the house and reported what he had seen. Bathurst Ambulance and Police were notified and proceeded to the scene. Constable McDonald accompanied the Ambulance to the morgue where life was pronounced extinct by the resident doctor. No suspicious circumstances surround the death, as Mr. Barton had been under medical treatment for an ailing heart for some time. An inquest has been dispensed with. The funeral will be held this afternoon, interment taking place in the Church of England portion of Bathurst cemetery.
