Secretary Victoria Racing Club
MR. HARVIE COBCROFT'S
DEATH
A Popular Racing Secretary
A great loss to the racing game in general is the death of the Victoria Park Racing Club secretary, Mr. Harvie Cobcroft. Mr. Cobcroft, who was a man
of 24st weight, had been in indifferent health for some time, and, although he conducted the trotting meeting at Victoria Park on Monday, he took ill on
Wednesday, and passed away at 10 p.m. on Thursday. Born in the Windsor district 53 years ago 'Cobby' as he was popularly known was a lightweight jockey as a youth, and rode at 6.7 at Richmond. He was subsequently connected with the Fresh Food and Ice Company, but succeeded the late Mr. S. Peters as secretary of Victoria Park two years after the formation of the club. He carried out his duties in that official position till his death, and the high standing of that club to-day is largely due to his untiring efforts. He was also secretary, as well as timekeeper, of the Australian Trotting Club, which
holds its meetings at Victoria Park. Mr. Cobcroft was one of the most popular racing officials in the State, and his innumerable friends were greatly
shocked and grieved at his untimely end.Source: Referee 26 Jly 1922
