53. Charles Arthur Jenkins

AGED MANS DEATH

Body Found After All Night Seach .

Charles Arthur Jenkins, a widower, 74 .years of age, was found dead in the scrub at Governers Hill, after an all night search, early this morning. Deceased resided with Mr and Mrs. Coleman, of the garage on the Sydney Road near the railway over-head bridge. At about 7 o'clock last night Jenkins left the house to shoot hares; and about ten minutes later a shot was heard coming from the scrub. When the deceased failed to return by 10.30 o'clock the Police at Goulburn were notified, and Sergeant Alford, accompanied by Detective Bodel and Constables Bourchier, Dunn and Sparkes, proceeded to Governor's Hill. Assisted by local residents, they made a search of the locality, using lanterns and torches.  It was thought that Jenkins had injured himself and strayed off into the scrub.   The body was discovered at about 7 o'clock this morning and brought into Goulburn. Dr. Cope, Government Medical Officer, made an examination and expressed the opinion that death was due to heart failure.   The shot, which had been heard earlier was accounted for by the fact that a hare had been killed a short distance from the spot at which deceased was found. Deceased had been in ill health for some time and apparently succumbed to a sudden seizure. It is understood, that he has family, but at present their whereabouts are not known.
